Breaking: Umahi Suspends State, Local Auditor Generals Indefinitely



The Ebonyi State Governor, Engr David Umahi has directed the immediate suspension of the State Auditor General, Mr Innocent Nweda, and that of Local Government, Mr George Ukpai over alleged dereliction of duties.

The governor handed the directive through a statement signed by Dr Kenneth Ugballa, Secretary to the State Government, who doubles as the state Coordinating Commissioner.

According to the statement, the State Auditor-General, Mr. Innocent Nweda and the Auditor-General for Local Governments, Mr. George Ukpai were suspended indefinitely from their offices with immediate effect.

“The indefinite suspension is as result of their failure to perform the duties of their offices especially the preparation and production of annual audited accounts of the State and the Local Governments respectively”

The statement further disclosed that during the period of suspension, Mr. Innocent Nweda should handover to the next most senior officer in rank while Dr. U.S.A. Udu should take charge of the Local Government Audit as Acting Auditor-General until further notice.

“All handover and takeover should be completed before the close of work on Monday 13th July, 2020” the statement directed.
