Prince Anya Okorie of the Royal Family of Ekoli-Edda, started his Civil Service career at the age of 23 with an automatic employment as the best serving corps member in 1985. That award from the then Imo State Military Governor, Major General, Ike Nwachukwu saw the young Prince who read Education to be posted as a teacher at Anara Community Secondary School, Mbano, Imo State on 1st August, 1985, three (3) weeks after passing out from (NYSC.) National Youth Service Corp, where he was a teacher at his primary place of assignment, Immaculate Conception Seminary Ahia Eke Umuahia (Roman Catholic Church Seminary).

The teacher who later delved into journalism taught also at Holy Child Secondary School, Afikpo; Amasiri Secondary School Amasiri and Government Secondary School Owutu Edda in the then Imo State before being employed as a Correspondent of BCA in a Competitive exercise as an Educational Correspondent. As a teacher, he was also the Dean of Studies at Amasiri Secondary School Amasiri and Government Secondary School, Owutu-Edda.

Saturday, the 1st of August, Prince will be bowing out of service after a meritorious service to his fatherland for 35 years, because he merged his teaching years to his new profession as a journalist. This widely travelled journalist is a member of the prestigious Guild of Editors, a member of NUJ, a onetime Chairman of NUJ. EBBS Chapel.

He is a member of Malaysian Institute of Public Administration Kuala-Lumpur, where he Studied Cross Cultural Management and for three times attended leadership courses in USA 2004, 2005, 2006 and was privileged to be in the UN headquarters; attended courses in IMF headquarters and World Bank headquarters as well as in the Congress and Office of the US Secretary of State. In Philadelphia USA, he was a guest at the US Constitutional Hall.

As a journalist, in 1999 Prince covered the Pan African Festival of Arts in Cape Coast Ghana amongst other coverages to his credit. Such as, in Israel 2001, he interviewed the Nigeria Ambassador, Professor George Obiozor and filed the report back home for use in some media houses and also when he went to Washington DC USA 2006 the same Prof. George Obiozor was the Nigeria Ambassador to USA, he repeated what he is known for as the two old friends robbed minds.

A trained teacher turned journalist, Prince will be bowing out of service on 1st of August, 2020, but not tired. He will now render more services to the public and to his community, most importantly as he said, and I quote “now is the time to Serve God and Humanity” unquote.

As we say farewell from Civil Service to the young Prince of Ekoli land who loves tourism so much that he has been to some African Countries like Jonnesburg, South Africa, Egypt, Benin and Togo as well as Asian Countries like Doha-Qatar and Dubai, United-Arab Emirates. He has also been on transit in some European countries like Spain and Britain.

He has authored many books, as a prolific writer, Prince has written over 1,000 News Commentaries, News Analysis and Profiles in FRCN, BCA, EBBS and EBBC from where he transferred his service to the Ministry of Information and State Orientation in 2011. As a Director of Information, Prince re-positioned the department prompting Information Officers and Public Relation Officers to be more pro-active in their respective places of posting. Prince held several positions in all the schools he attended in the Student Union Government of Alvan Ikoku and University of Calabar. Prince held many positions. He was the governor of the Advanced Journalism class at the Nigeria Broadcast Academy Lagos in 2012. He was the course leader of Social Studies department, Alvan Ikoku College of Education from1981 – 1984. To fully equip himself as a journalist, he attended the Basic Journalist course, the Intermediate Journalist course and Advanced Journalism course as well as creative writing course all in Nigeria Broadcast Academy Lagos.

In any organization he finds himself, he was never wanting Prince served as a Board Member of EBBC Governing Board 2014-2015 and also Member of State Primary Health Care Development Agency Board 2016-2020. He was the PRO/Welfare Officer Ebonyi Angels FC and Information Officer Ebonyi State. He promoted Public Enlightenment as a Director, in the Directorate if Attitudinal change 2011-2014.

As the Chief Press Secretary to the wife of the Governor Her Excellency, Eunice Ukamaka Egwu (JP) 2003 – 2007, through the famous Children Vacation Committee programme of the Office of Her Excellency, Prince was opportuned to visit great world tourist centres, such as the Disneyland LOS Angeles, the Universal Studio, Hollywood, Bervely Hills, Ronald Reason Library, John Hopkins, Hospital, Six Hills Maryland, World Trade Centre, Baltimore etc in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

As he finally retires from civil service after 35 years of meritorious service, started at a young age of 23, we hope that he would distinguish himself in any new chosen career to advance humanity. His doggedness, uprightness, hardwork, humility and above all, friendly disposition, few of the character traits that advanced him in life should continue to promote his future.

Hobby – Prince Loves Sports especially football, enjoys playing Christian music and old school. He reads a lot. He is a member of the Presbyterian church of Nigeria.

Prince is married with two children, his wife Nkechi, his daughter Mgbo and his son Jonathan. He has two foster daughters Olu.
