Easter Celebration: Ogbaga, Okpo, Agbo Others Advocate For Love, Peace, Forgiveness

As Christians in Ebonyi State joined other Christendom to observe this year’s Easter celebration, some stakeholders from the state have called on the people to emulate the exemplary life of Jesus Christ by showing love, peace and forgiveness to one another.

Speaking with newsmen in Abakaliki, the former Minister of State for Power, Chief Goddy Ogbaga in his goodwill message to Ebonyians encouraged the people to be courageous and focused in all their dealings despite the current economic difficulties, and that the people should celebrate the Easter with what is within their reach and to also disengage themselves in all forms of criminal acts, especially this period of political activities.

Chief Ogbaga who used the opportunity to give a tip of his package, especially for the people of Ebonyi North Senatorial Zone, promised effective representation if allowed to represent the people at the red chamber of the House of Assembly Abuja, stressing that youths’ restiveness and unemployment would be a thing of the past.

He also advised all Ebonyians especially the youths to coordinate themselves well and to shun violence, political thuggery and other forms of misconduct during this period of political activities.

Similarly, the Special Assistant to the Ebonyi State Governor on Local Affairs Hon. Collins Agbo, who stressed the importance of the Easter celebration, noted that Jesus Christ died on the cross to save mankind, adding that the Easter period is a moment of sober reflection on the life, death and the resurrection of Jesus Christ, and to use the festive period to promote peace and unity in the society.

Hon. Agbo who also lauded the peace initiative of Governor David Umahi, expressed hope that the amnesty programme of the state government to the people of Effium community in Ohaukwu L.G.A would help in restoring peace in the war-prone community, and advised those fanning the embers of war and those that are feeding fat from the war to turn a new leaf by giving peace a chance to reign.

Also in her good will message, the Honourable Member representing the people of Abakaliki North Constituency in Ebonyi State House of Assembly, Hon. Mrs Franca Okpo, enjoined both the Christians and non-Christians to show regard for human lives, and to use this period to amend their ways to make heaven.

Hon. Okpo who stressed the need for equity and fairness in the forthcoming general elections, also advised all the political aspirants to play according to the rules of the game and not to see politics as a do or die affair, noting that rancour and acrimony can never change what God has destined for everybody.

Earlier, the Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers Nwofe, Mr Hygienus Ogenyi, congratulated Christians all over the world for observing this year’s Easter festival, adding that the transport union has within this period reduced the cost of transportation to enable people to travel to their various places for the Easter celebration.
