Ebonyi University Inducts 58 Medical Graduands, As It Marks 19th Oath Taking Ceremony

The 19th Set of 58 Medical Graduands of Ebonyi State University, (EBSU), Abakaliki has been Inducted by the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN)

Speaking at the event, the visitor to the University and the Governor of Ebonyi State, Engr David Nweze Umahi appealed to medical practitioners to always consider the fate of their patients before embarking on strike.

The Governor made the appeal as part of his message to the 19th Oath taking Ceremony of Medical graduands at the permanent site of Ebonyi state University.

The Governor who was represented by the Deputy Governor Dr Kelechi Igwe said it is against the principles of morality for Doctors to proceed on strike at the detriment of patients who depend on them for survival.

He said Doctors should at all times dialogue with Government to press home their demands instead of going on strike considering the essential nature of their services.

He advocated that professional ethics should be inculcated into the Medical school curriculum to enhance moral standards of Medical graduands.

He advised the graduands to see their induction into medical profession as a call to serve humanity and should also strive to improve themselves in their line of duty.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of Ebonyi State University Prof. Chigozie Ogbu disclosed that the institution has been repositioned to produce world class medical doctors.

On his own part, the Provost of EBSU College of Health Sciences, Prof Perpetus Chidi Ibekwe, said the University has produced a total of 1, 730 medical personnel including newly inducted medical graduands.

He maintained that the mission of the institution was to produce qualified and well trained medical personnel who would help in solving human health problems around the world.

He said;

“At the end of this ceremony, 58 brand new medical doctors shall have been added to the list as the College had earlier produced 1,672 medical doctors, to make a total of 1,730 qualified medical personnel, who are gracefully solving human medical problems around the world”

A total of ten (10) best graduands received various award with the overall Best Graduating Student, Dr. Uzoigwe Ifechi Margaret among other Awards going home with the Governor’s prize for Best Graduating Student (BGS) to the tune of N1 million as well as Automatic Housemanship in the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital.

The 2021 Induction has brought the total number of Medical Doctors produced by the University to a total of 1, 730.
