Traditional Rulers’ Council of Afikpo South has called on the people of Edda clan to shun violence and other acts capable of breeding further crises and killings in the area.

Chairman of the Council and Traditional Ruler of Ebunwana Autonomous community, Ezeogo Charles Azuenya, made the call while receiving the report of Edda Fact-finding and Intervention Committee at Owutu Edda Civic centre.

Azuenya who expressed worry over the recent crisis in the area urged the people of Edda to love one another as no meaningful development could take place in an atmosphere of crisis.

He said the committee which was inaugurated on 9th May, 2020 following the recent crisis and killings in the area was mandated by the Edda people’s Assembly to unravel the remote and immediate causes of the recent killings in Afikpo South LGA.

He thanked the Committee for a job well done and prayed that such ugly incidents would not happen again in the area.

“I am here with my Traditional Rulers to receive a report of an assignment we gave to a committee on 9th May 2020 over ugly incidents that were happening in Edda clan. That is why we decided to constitute a committee to investigate the whole matter and proffer solutions to the problem; so that in future we will not get any such occurrence again.

“Today, they have come down to give us and hand over the report of their findings and recommendations to the people of Edda, which we have received with the view of going back home to study them before we  summon a larger group and we make our final open statement with regards to the recommendations.

The Chairman of the committee, Barr George Ukpai while presenting the report said the recommendations if well implemented would go along way to restoring lasting peace and unity in Edda.

While urging the leadership of Edda clan to give the report a serious attention it deserved, Barr Ukpai said all hands must be on deck to nib in the bud the insecurity situation in the area.

“The report is very rich. it’s a report that took us 73 days to work on and on the strength of the written memoranda and oral testimonies we received, we believe that the recommendations we have made in that report will go along way to restore peace and sanity in Edda and we urge the leadership of Edda clan to give that report a very very serious touch.

“We feel that what is happening in Edda today requires everybody from Edda to be concerned because things are really falling apart. And if we don’t do anything now to nib all these in the bud Edda will degenerate. The security situation will become so bad more than it is today.
So it is a thing of joy that finally we submitted this report to Edda clan today and we thank God for that”.

Ukpai said the Committee members were grateful to the people of Edda for finding them worthy to serve in that capacity.

“We sincerely thank you all for your prayers and support while the assignment lasted. The Report will be made public at the appropriate time by the People’s Assembly”.

Afikpo South Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has diverse communities, but houses only the people of Edda clan who speak same language and practice same culture.
