Few months after herders’ attack, flood wrecks havoc in Ebonyi Community (Pics & video)



Flood victims from Umugadu, Umuogudu Akpu Ngbo Community, in Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi State are currently counting their losses due to effects of heavy downpour that destroyed over three hundred farms in the area.

In a letter titled; SAVE OUR SOULS –
RE: FLOOD DISASTER IN UMUGADU, UMUOGUDU AKPU COMMUNITY, addressed to the Executive Secretary, Ebonyi State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, the affected farmers requested for an urgent assistance from both the state and federal government.

The flood which occurred September 9, 2021, the people said has subjected the farmers to excruciating pains as a result of the monumental loss and therefore solicited for government urgent attention to offer victims the needed succor.

Parts of the farmers request read;

“Recall sir, that the same Community had on the 12th of April, this year suffered wanton destruction of lives and property in the hands of Fulani herdsmen; an attack which had hitherto kept people of the area in great shock and difficulty before the recent disaster.

“Our people were grappling to resettle from that invasion before our hard earned farms and crops were washed away.”

“It is in view of this difficulty and it’s attendant excruciating conditions on our people that we humbly request your urgent attention and assistance

” Do please come to our aid.”

Speaking to NATIONSTRENDS on the disaster, an indigene of the area and one of the affected farmers, Mr David Onwe lamented the recurring human and natural disaster on the people within a year and appealed to concerned authorities to come to rescue in other to reduce the effect of the loss on the affected farmers in the area.
